At a recent practice group, we talked about the upcoming holidays and the mixed bag they can be for some of us. We explored what needs each of us wants to meet and we used that exercise in awareness to set our intentions for those needs.
For example, I want fun, ease, warmth, and kindness. So each day I set my intentions and choose to greet life with these values in mind. If a line at the grocery store is longer than I’m enjoying: I think of fun, ease, warmth, and kindness—and choose to relax, smile at my fellow shoppers, greet the clerk with friendliness when it’s my turn, and move with kindness into the world. I can’t control what will happen during the holidays. I can focus my attention on what’s important to me and do my best to bring those values to myself and others. What needs would you like met this holiday season? Would this be a helpful exercise for you to try? Wishing you a needs-meeting holiday season.
