Recycle. Use your local area’s Free Stuff group on Facebook (or a similar resource) to recycle things no longer needed. We’ve done so and enjoyed the personal connection of giving to someone excited to receive. Sharing in this way meets needs for connection, community, and sustainability. Donate to local nonprofit thrift stores so they can raise money for their good works.
Reuse. Reuse any plastic bags from fruit and veggie purchases. Use them instead of plastic wrap to cover leftovers. When buying lettuce and other greens without bags, wrap the greens in damp dishtowels in the reused bags to keep things fresher. Wash the bags, dry, and reuse.
Repurpose. Use plastic containers (cottage cheese, sour cream, yogurt, etc.) for home or dining-out leftovers and for odds-and-ends containers in the kitchen, craft room, or garage.
