🍜 Don't forget your to-go ware! 🍽️

If you’ve been following our EarthCare tips you know that one of my personal concerns is food waste. In an earlier tip, I hoped to encourage readers to redirect household food waste toward local companies that will compost it. This time around, I suggest that if you go out to eat as much as I do, you might consider bringing “to-go ware” with you.

To-go ware includes sustainable alternatives to disposables, like eco-friendly containers for bringing one’s leftovers home. Here’s a picture of ours.

It’s surprising how few restaurants compost food waste, and until recently I wasn’t even aware that the food I was leaving behind becomes methane at the landfill and contributes to global warming.

Using to-go ware is a doable strategy for Michael and me. All we have to do is remember to bring it to the restaurant so we can take the leftovers back home to enjoy or put them in our yard waste for composting. It feels very satisfying to know I’m doing something that helps.

Finally, I want to give a shout-out to every single person who figured this out years ago and has been mindfully bringing to-go ware with them when they go out to eat. Thank you for showing me the way. And equally, to all of us who are doing our best in taking steps like this to help our planet heal. I am very grateful to us all.
