The Peace Center (PCOCO) is an all-volunteer non-profit organization of people committed to spreading Compassionate Communication throughout our community and beyond.
Look what we've done in just twelve months!
- Are providing trainers and materials for monthly Introduction to Compassionate Communication workshops at the Women's Resource Center in Bend.
- Are providing a home and/or support for seven Compassionate Communication practice and study groups
- Staff PCOCO on Tuesdays and Fridays and provided drop-in support and networking for anyone who comes by
- Have created a 14 member Compassionate Communication Leadership Team who meets monthly and is supporting our work through facilitating, networking and participating in PCOCO activities. 2 more people are interested in joining the CCLT.
- Have created this website.
- Have created an E-newsletter which is being sent monthly to our email list of 147 to date.
- Have offered a series of facilitated discussion groups on topical issues designed to listen and understand others' viewpoints
- Are providing a resource and ongoing calendar of peace events
- Have co-sponsored various peace events including:
- Imagine Peace, World Without War Peace Walk and Old Stone Church gathering with speakers and music
- Peace Concert by Snatam Kaur
- Sept 14 Nonviolent Peace Vigil at Bend Congressional Offices
- Sept 21 International Day of Peace Walk and Talk by Goudarz Eghtedari, Middle East expert from Iran
- During Women's History Month, we produced Celebrating Women of Peace, an evening of music and words honoring women Nobel Peace Prize recipients and others who are peace heroes to us
- Have co-sponsored and staffed a booth at the Bend July 4th Celebration
- Sponsored a Peace Picnic at Shevlin Park in Bend playing games, creating peace art and mingling with other peace-loving friends.
- Attended the "Peace Train" San Jose Conference on Nonviolence and 5th annual San Jose Community Conference on Nonviolence
- Networked with Oregon Network for Compassionate Communication, CodePINK, Amnesty, CO Peace Network, Department of Peace & more
- Became a Task Force Leader for Season for Peace and Nonviolence
- Created a bookstore of NVC books and CDs/DVDs
- Created a free lending library of peace materials including books, CDs and videos.
- Attended ROP August 28 Leadership Council
- Gave presentation to Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bend and accepted generous donation of $500.
- Sept 28 and Oct 26 - Compassionate Communication presentation to Hospice of Redmond/Sisters by Katy Elliott and Carol Delmonico
- October presentation to Bend Waldorf School by Carol Delmonico
- Attended October 17 Bend Council Meeting to support “Bridge to Peace”
- Special Making Friends with Food Class incorporating CC principles with Carol Delmonico
